Primates in General

Let's start with BONOBOS (pygmy chimpanzees) which were discovered less than
100 years ago. William Calvin's Bonobo page is the best place to start. It has good

by Frans de Waal, one of the leading authorities on bonobos is entitled Bonobo

CHIMPANZEES may be our closest relative, genetically speaking.
The woman who pioneered primate research in the wild was Jane Goodall.
Her foundation is engaged in many chimpanzee projects. The Jane Goodall
Institute is a good place to start your search for information. link here

GORILLAS are the most maligned ape.
The Gorilla Foundation is a good place to start to find basic information about
gorillas  link here
Two or three gorilla families live in the Buffalo Zoo, only about 2 hours away by car.

ORANGUTANS are isolated in dwindling areas of southeast Asia.
The Orangutan Foundation International is a good starting place. links here

There are 3 orangs living in the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, about 1 hour way by car.
