About Hopkins JHS
Hopkins Junior High School is located in Fremont, California, a city of 160,000 people at the southern end of San Francisco Bay. We are a seventh and eighth grade school with
1103 students, and our school mascot is the hawk. School colors are green and gold. Mr. Reichert is our principal, and our vice-principal is Mrs. Berney.
Our school is known for its high educational standards. During the 3rd quarter of the school year, 1997-1998, the average schoolwide grade point average was 3.1!
Our school day consists of six periods, not including lunch. Each semester, every student must take history, math, English, and physical education. Some students take science for either the first or second semester, while others take science the entire year (Honors). The sixth period is an elective, a class that we choose before the beginning of the semester. A student who does not take science for a particular semester is allowed a second elective for that semester. We are allowed five minutes passing time between classes.
School starts at 8:05 in the morning and ends at 2:10 in the afternoon. Lunch is from 11:35 to 12:10, although we wish it were longer. Students can bring their lunch, or buy lunch from the school. Sometimes, mostly for teacher meetings, there's a minimum day with early dismissal, at 11:33 or 12:25.
