| 1 in principio creavit Deus caelum et terram | 1 Al començament Déu creà el cel i la terra. | 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. |
| 2 terra autem erat inanis
et vacua et tenebrae super faciem abyssi et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas |
2 La terra però era inane i buida i la foscor era damunt la faç de l'abisme. I l'esperit de Déu planava sobre les aigües. | 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. |
| 3 dixitque Deus fiat lux et facta est lux | 3 I Déu digué: «Que es faci la llum», i la llum es va fer. | 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. |
| 4 et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona et divisit lucem ac tenebras | 4 I Déu va veure que la llum era bona; i dividí la llum de la foscor. | 4 And God saw the light,
that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

diem et tenebras noctem factumque est vespere et mane dies unus

5 I va anomenar la llum «dia», i la foscor «nit»; | 5 And God called the
light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. |

fiat firmamentum in medio aquarum et dividat aquas ab aquis |

6 And God said, Let
there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the
waters from the waters.

| 7 et fecit Deus firmamentum divisitque aquas quae erant sub firmamento ab his quae erant super firmamentum et factum est ita | 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firma-ment: and it was so. | |

caelum et factum est vespere et mane dies secundus

dixit vero Deus congregentur aquae quae sub caelo sunt in locum unum et appareat arida factumque est ita |
9 And God said, Let
the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let
the dry [land] appear: and it was so.

terram congregationesque aquarum appellavit maria et vidit
Deus quod esset bonum

dry [land] Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas:
and God saw that [it was] good.

terra herbam virentem et facientem semen et lignum pomiferum faciens fructum iuxta genus suum cuius semen in se?met_ipso sit super terram et factum est ita |
11 And God said, Let
the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree
yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. |

herbam virentem et adferentem semen iuxta genus suum lignumque faciens fructum et habens unumquodque sementem secundum speciem suam et vidit Deus quod esset bonum |
... | 12 And the earth brought
forth grass, [and] herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed [was] in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good. |
