No. 46 - CHORUS

"Since by Man Came Death"

Since by man came death
By man came also the resurrection from the dead.
For as in Adam all die
Even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

I have spent the last 5 hours recording a section of Handel's Messiah on my computer. I arranged the accompaniment on my keyboard, recorded it, and recorded each voice part individually. Then, I mixed them all on the computer. Here is a low-fidelity version of it (744K).

The text Handel wrote this chorus from is I Corinthians 15:21-22. In modern English it reads:

21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

In this section of Scripture, Paul, a leader and missionary, is emphatic. He speaks to the believers in the city of Corinth about the physical resurrection of Jesus saying: "... if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith... we are to be pitied more than all men."

But if Jesus indeed has been raised from the dead, there is a way to escape death. He himself said: "I AM the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)
