House Cleaning "Spell"

NOTE: Please do not attempt to invoke any deity you are not perfectly familiar with. Hecate especially can get quite pissed when beginners don’t take her serious!!!!!

Needed:
Sea salt
Broom and/or vaccuum cleaner
Incense burner for granulated incense (or a sand-filled bowl)
charcoal and incense (recipe below)
OR
a sage smudge stick
your chalice or a glass bowl, filled with water
four pretty stones or crystals
an amethyst (it doesn't matter what size)
a hematite (ditto)
a garnet (again)

Recipe for incense:
2 T powdered copal (use red copal if you can find it, otherwise white copal is fine)
1 T powdered frankincense
2 T powdered rosemary
1 T powdered sage
1/2 t powdered cinnamon (or 4 drops cinnamon essential oil)
1/2 t sea salt, pounded fine

Blend well and store in a glass container.

Cast a circle in your normal fashion. Make it big enough to cover your whole house. Ground and center your energies, and ask your gods and goddesses to watch over and bless the working you are about to do.

Start at the door to your house you normally use the most. Take the sea salt and tell it "Salt, creature of Earth and Sea, clean this dwelling place for me." Go around the perimeter of the house inside, moving widdershins (the direction of banishing), sprinkling salt on the floors and tossing a pinch of salt in each corner, at each window and door, and in the middle of each wall, saying "Begone, fear. Begone, anxiety. Begone, negative energy. Begone, unwelcome ones." (If you have another specific concern, like "Begone, arguments", add that too.) If any room in the house feels like it is resisting, go around that room a second and third time widdershins, repeating the salt-tossing. Make sure you salt the halls as well. When you get back around to the door, if there are any other rooms on that floor that didn't get salted, go through them with the same procedure, and then move on the the next floor and salt every room in it in the same way. When you've salted every room, put the salt down next to the door you started at. Take the broom you normally use to sweep your floors and a carpet sweeper or vacuum cleaner if there are carpeted rooms, and tell them "Broom/vacuum cleaner, clean this house for me, of salt and fear and negativity." Go through each room in the order you went through them before and sweep/vacuum the floors as thoroughly as you can. Take the piles of swept-up salt and dirt (or the contents of the vacuum cleaner bag) and throw it into the nearest street crossing, saying "all that is ill in my house I resign to ___, the walker of crossroads," calling upon either Ellegua or Hecate, whomever you are more comfortable invoking. Thank the broom and/or vacuum cleaner for their help and put them away.

Light the charcoal, set it in the incense burner until it gets hot, and sprinkle a little incense on it, or light your smudge stick and set it in the bowl of sand. Turn and face the door you usually come in by (which should be closed), and move the burner/bowl around the perimeter of the door, waving the smoke at it. Say "With fire and air I seal this door against all harm. No wight may pass through without invitation." Move clockwise to the next door or window, cense or smudge the perimeter, and repeat the incantation, adding more incense or relighting the smudge stick as necessary. Cense/smudge every entry into the house - every window, every door, every pet door, every faucet, every drain, and every vent that you know leads to the outside. Don't obsess about getting them all, but try to get each one. Cense/smudge every non-consecrated mirror on the walls, too. Before you smudge the last entry (it will probably be a window), open it and say "All unwelcome, uninvited sprits, take your leave; this house is blessed by ____ and ____," naming your matron and patron goddess and god (or two goddesses, or two gods). Close the window/door and cense/smudge it, repeating the incantation. Go back to the door you started at. Stir a pinch of salt into the chalice or bowl of water, and sprinkle a little on each door, window, mirror or other entryway, saying "With earth and water I seal this door against all harm. No wight may pass though without invitation." Go through the house as before; you don't need to open the last door/window to let the spirits out this time unless you feel they are still there, in which case visualize your patron or matron deity chasing them out that exit with the broom or vacuum cleaner you used to clean the house before, and then repeat the "All unwelcome" incantation and close the window or door and sprinkle it.

Go back to the door you started at and take the four pretty stones or crystals and pass them through the incense/smudge smoke and sprinkle them lightly with the salt water. Go to the easternmost part of your house and say "Spirits of this place in the East, I bring a gift for you. I ask that you watch over the walls in the East of this my house, and tumble, trip, and baffle any intruding being, be it spirit or flesh." Find a spot where you can leave this stone permanently; it now belongs to the spirits of the house. Go to the southmost, westmost, and northmost parts of the house and repeat the offering, substituting the correct direction. (You can move the stones when you're cleaning or moving furniture, but always try to put them back in as close a position as you can. If you ever move out of the house, leave those four stones there, unless the house spirits say they want to move with you.)

Finally, take the amethyst, the garnet, and the hematite, and pass them through the incense/smudge smoke and sprinkle them lightly with the salt water. Take them to the spot which is closest to the center of your house. Hold the amethyst in your hands and visualize a shield of sparkling purple protective energy covering each wall of your house, inside and outside. Pull up energy from the Earth and pour it through the amethyst stone and to the walls of your house. When you can feel the shielding energy around you throughout the house, set the amethyst down. Take up the garnet, and visualize a shield on the outside of your house of deep red energy. Feel the energy as warm, comforting, and loving for anyone who belongs in the house or who is invited into the house, but hot, prickly, and frightening to anyone who tries to pass through it uninvited. When you can feel that shield, set the garnet down. Pick up the hematite and visualize a shield like a bubble all around your house of the same shiny, dark-reflective shade as the hematite. Feel that this shield will reflect away any bad attention from your house; any ill-will directed at it will be reflected back, and whatever the reflective shield cannot reflect, it will absorb. When you feel this third shield around your house, take all three stones and place them somewhere near the center of your house; the top of a doorframe works fairly well. (You might want to recharge these shielding-stones every so often, as well.)

Ask your goddesses and gods to watch over the house and its occupants, and to bless its daily routines. Explain to any pets that part of their responsibilities is to guard this house as they would their territory in the wild from any intrusion, physical or spiritual. And make an agreement between all human occupants that you will lock doors and windows, keep lights on when no one's home, cast circle and ground and center before any magickal or energy workings, and otherwise keep the house safe.

When they're cold, sprinkle the ashes of the incense or smudge stick around the exterior of the house if you can or in front of your door if you can't go all the way around. Close the circle and thank the goddesses and gods for their presence. This spell is done.
