Sarah Perry is left to care for her daughter when her husband, Michael, dies. She must take over his freight wagon business so she and her daughter will have an income. The work is hard and the days are long for Sarah. She feels that life on the fronteir is no life she wants for her daughter, so she saves her money and sends Rebecca to a very prominent boarding school. While Rebecca discovers the luxuries in life, her mother is home, working hard for her daughter's life style. Finally, years later, Rebecca returns to her home. She is dismayed at her mother's appearance, she doesn't believe that she came from this uncivlilized, uncultured person. Sarah realizes that her daughter and her come from different worlds. The mother and daughter relationship Sarah wants will take more work than normally needed, but with God Sarah knows things will be okay.
I haven't finished reading this book yet. From what I've read, it has been very sad. I feel very bad for Sarah and the sacrifices she has made for Rebecca. I know that things will work out for both of them and that in the end God will through their tough times.
