Small town Ashton is on the brink of war, a war no human can see. As Rafar and his horrible clan of demons gather for their attack, Tal and God's Heavenly Angels gather to protect God's children and destroy Rafar's feeble attempt to take control of the city. Reporter, Marshall Hogan, is the head of the Ashton Clarion, the small town's bi-weekly newspaper. With the help of his co-worker, Bernice Krueger, they stumble onto a conspiracy in the town. While Hogan is trying to get information of the members in this group, Pastor Hank Bushe notices the change in the town's atmosphere. He prays for the small town and all the people living it. As the story continues, Tal and Rafar's armies battle in the skies, while the inhabitants of Ashton search for truth in their lives.
I truly LOVED this book. I've never read anything like it, it was a new and refreshing perspective on issues facing people today. I also liked how Peretti pulled what was happening in the spirit world and the world we see, together. I think I should add something here. I read an article on Frank Peretti and he wanted people to realize that this book and Piercing the Darkness were symbolic and he doesn't want people to take them literally. Peretti wanted to show that prayer is important, but he did not want people to start believing that God is completely dependent on prayer. I feel that everyone who reads this book will get something different from it than another person. So read it and see what you think.
