CHAMOMILE ~ (Matricia Chamomilla) (Odour intensity 9)

This oil is obtained from the flowers of the plants which are grown in Germany, Hungary and Belgium. The odour is herbaceous and hay-like and one which I have to say I dislike intensely, which generally means it wouldn't suit me at all!

The toxicity rating of this oil is D which does render it quite mild and as most of us know it is mostly used as an anti-inflammatory, i.e. for rheumatism and arthritis. It is also helpful for burns, gastritis, diarrhoea, colitis, peptic ulcers and aches and pains generally, including earache, headache and migraine. It is also a stimulant of leucocytosis (helps white blood cells - i.e. immune system) and is good for aiding scanty menstruation, menopausal problems and vaginitis. In children it is used for temper tantrums, fractiousness and hyper-activity. It is also, on the emotional level, an anti-depressant and is used where there is some physical and emotional sensitivity.

If you would like to use Chamomile for a massage, mix just 2 drops in 20mls of almond oil or grapeseed oil.

Although this is one of the most well-known oils, it is not one that I have used a great deal, so if any of you out there have a really good story about the good effects of Chamomile, please let me know.

Enjoy your oils!!
