I am sure you are all familiar with pictures of the beautiful Cedarwood trees and I rather think that I have seen them growing in specialist parks in England. The odour of Cedarwood is rich, soft, sweet and at the same time woody. It is an odour that I like but only in small doses, but it does blend particularly well with Rosemary and Sandalwood. It's toxicity rating is 'D' which renders it a fairly mild oil and it's main properties are that it has a sedative effect on the mucus membranes of the body, i.e. for catarrhal conditions, especially coughs and bronchitis. It is also useful for genito-urinary problems, including discharges, cystitis, difficulty in urinating, pain or burning. It is also a skin sedative and relieves itching. There are quite a few oils suitable for relieving Cystitis, Cedarwood being just one. Some of the others are, Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Cinnamon, Fennel, Cypress and Eucalyptus. Obviously at the moment it is best just to stick with one oil until you become a little more "au fait" with mixing. It is important to massage just above the pubic bone and at the base of the spine or if you have the time just lay quietly with a warm compress; wringing out and re-applying when the warmth is wearing off. Drink at least two pints of water per day and most important, I think, is to keep WARM, also avoid drinking tea and coffee!! Apply the oil or compress once or twice a day until relief is obtained. If you would like to use Cedarwood oil as a massage take 2Omls of your base oil and add 4 drops of Cedarwood. Happy release!! Copyright © 1998 Jennifer.
