The planet of communication and reason, whose sign is the Caduceus, the two serpents twining round a rod, symbolising poetry and the riddle of life. Being the messenger to the other planets, Mercury has no voice of his own and is dependent for expression on the aspects of the other planets. He is also regarded as the Trickster of the Zodiac, an evil meddler, and can over-emphasise good points in a chart, so that sensible communications can turn to wasted chatter and spite.
