Powers: Happiness, Healing, Power, Protection, Wealth The Ruby is a beautiful gemstone, a type of corundum, its colours range from pink to crimson and sometimes orange-red. As a healing stone it is believed to improve the circulation and also helps in the treatment of blood deficiencies, like anaemia, and it increases haemoglobin. It is thought of as an energising and stimulating stone. In her wonderful book "Love is in the Earth" Melody says of Ruby: "This mineral stimulates the heart chakra and assists one in the selection and attainment of ones ultimate values. It further stimulates the loving emotional side toward nurturing, bringing spiritual wisdom, health, knowledge and wealth." The Ruby symbolises ‘unconditional love’ and was thought of as the perfect offering to Buddha in China, and to Krishna in India. The Pope wears a ruby as it is the symbol of love and sacrifice of the ego in service top others. Concerning power and protection, Scott Cunningham, in his "Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic" says: "Worn, the Ruby was thought to convey invulnerability, or protection against all foes, wicked spirits, negativity, plague, fascination (magical manipulation), and famine. It was also a special mascot of soldiers, guarding against wounds in battle. Basically, the Ruby strengthens the body’s own psychic defence system when worn." As a symbol of wealth, dreaming of Rubies is a sure sign of future success in money and business dealings. Rubies have been much used in magical rituals and spells to increase wealth, and are thought to be even more effective if they are engraved with the image of a snake or dragon. In Ancient India it was said that if you possessed Rubies it would help you to accumulate other precious gemstones and thereby increase your wealth. It is said that if a Ruby is placed under your pillow, or worn to bed, then you will have restful sleep and nightmares will be kept at bay; and that wearing jewellery set Rubies will ‘banish sadness and negative thought patterns’ bringing you joy as it energises and brings a feeling of power, confidence and protection to the wearer.
