Modi'in and the surrounding area

View of the eastern neighbourhoods of Modi'in with the neighbouring town of Re'ut in the background

We live in Modi'in, a brand new town being built near the site of ancient Modi'inwhich was once home to the Maccabees (of Chanukah fame). Modi'in is midway between Israel's capital Jerusalem and its second-largest city Tel Aviv. The Modi'in region is also home to many other historic and other sites of interest such as the Ben Shemen Forest, the Tombs of the Maccabees and the lovely biblical nature reserve at Neot Kedumim.

In the several years that this site has existed I've received many questions about Modi'in, ranging from whether this is the town of the ancient Maccabees to whether we have a movie theatre. I've redesigned the site in the hope that I've now answered more of those questions.

These pages are intended to give a basic introduction to the area for both tourists, actual or virtual, and for those thinking of living here. I hope that you find it helpful. Questions or comments are always welcome at: leiah@elbaum.org
