MY CHILDHOOD

utsikt.jpg (14986 bytes)I was born on the 6th of July, in Bergen, the most beautiful city in Norway. Three years later I got a brother and our family was complete. As a child I was incredibly shy, but also quite a "tom-boy", And living in a quiet neighborhood, together with the kids in our street (mostly boys), lots of ideas were given life. Building little "huts" in the summer and igloos in the winter almost every year. Making several editions of a children's newspaper sold to support "Save the Children" and having raffles outside the newspaper stand in the "Hospital garden" for the same cause. (Not to mention how fun it was to hide in the long corridors underneath the hospital, which was considered trespassing,- what a thrill!!!) Performing and writing dramas to be performed for the parents in self-made costumes was "in" for a time. Of course there was a "Hardy boys" inspired period where we picked a "suspect" at random and followed them for hours and hours and wrote down everything he/she did, finding it all very suspect! We also established a "secret eccentric club," and since the local football ground was 5 minutes away we spent a lot of time playing football (soccer),- and different versions of hide and seek followed us through the years. Not to forget the "wars" and football matches against children living in other strbryggen.jpg (9442 bytes)eets. I was a "bookaholic", and could go to the library Friday evening, lend 15 books and had read them by Monday morning.

As my parents were members (soldiers) of the Salvation Army, of course my life was influenced by this. We were sent to sunday school, which to be honest I really don't remember very much about..... When I was 6 I started playing the piano, - had a very frightening old lady as a teacher, and even if I stayed on with her for 8 years, she finally killed all the joy of playing. So I literally didn't touch the piano for several years.....When I was 7 I became a scout at the Army and went through all the grades til I was about 15, and had so much on my "program" that I had to "cut" something. When I was 10 I learned to play the tenor horn, - which soon changed into playing the cornet, which I still play. Apart from playing in the Salvation Army bands in the Bergen 1. corps,- most of my teenager years I played in several bands,- up to five at a time....-how on earth I found the time for this I seriously don't know! And amazingly I still had time to do other things beside of this. To cut it short, I took piano lessons, played football, was in charge of the childrens choir at the Army together with some friends, went to a youth club, and still had time just to be with my friends.

school...

So, did I have time for school??? Fortunately learning has always been easy for me, so I never had to study much. I went through primary (7 - 12 years) and secondary school (13 -15), without much hassle, getting to "gymnas" (16-19 years), - a little more hassle...... When I was 17 I took a "break" and went to Tustin in California for a year, lived with my distant relatives and went to Tustin High School. A great experience! Loved US history and English litterature A.P, can "brag" about having read Shakespeare in the original language....... Went to the Salvation Army Corps in Santa Ana, made lots of friends, basically had a great time! Came back to Norway, changed school to be able to take music as one of my main subjects. Started at the university of Bergen, wanting to become a lawyer... Lost interest very fast...... Had a year out of school working as a "corps assistent" in the SA. at the Bergen 2. corps. Started at the teacher training college in Bergen. Went there for three years. 1991,- Moved away from Bergen for the first time on a permanent basis. Attended the Salvation Army training college. And in the summer of '93 we became officers.....

FAMILY

torryme.jpg (10254 bytes)

As I said I have one brother, Torry, who is three years younger than me, and spends most of his spare time as a drummer in a group called "eddie Olsen and the gogo foundation". My Dad's name is John, and in his spare time he writes band music and conducts several bands. My mothers name is Jenny, popularly called Vesla, she is now married to Terje. My parents got divorced when I was about 20.... We used to have great holidays. Almost always travelling somewhere in the summer. Highlights were the year when we "did" Europe, and the year we had five weeks in the US visiting about 15 states....

In 1989 I met Paul, for a while we were just "good friends", but then it changed and in april '91 we got marriedpaul30.jpg (7272 bytes). That fall we went to the training college for officers together, and in '93 our first appointment was at a little place up in the mountains called Gol. We stayed there for three years and on the 1. of September '95 after a three hour horrible drive down from the mountains to the hospital, we became parents to Jonathan. In the summer of '96 we were given new orders to "Tistedal" , and on January the 28. ' 97,- our second son, Marcus was born. In august '99, we moved again, "half an' hour up the road",- to the place we now live, Sarpsborg. And on the 10th.of March 2000 Benjamin was born.

Jonathan wajonmarbe.jpg (21357 bytes)s a very serious little boy his first years and always seemed like he was thinking a lot. When he was a baby it was not easy to get a smile! But as he has grown older, he has become a lot livlier, running around, fighting as boys does. But he stills enjoy sitting still drawing, and he is brilliant with Lego's.Marcus on the other hand is very different. As a baby he was smiling and singing all day long. And he still is.... But he also has a very strong will and can get into very bad tempers... They both love music. Singing, playing, conducting and drumming is a part of our every day life. And nowadays their favourite game is beeing Pirates or Knights.. Benjamin is still a baby, and behaves like babies does. Eating, sleeping, and crawling around exploring. We had the idea that we should speak English at home, so that they would learn both languages, but we haven't quite sucvceeded at this. But at least Jonathan and Marcus now understands most of what's said in English, and after visiting England for a month last year, Jonathan can put together simple sentences... and he can also translate most words if you ask him....
