Taphophilia
I am a taphophile. I love cemeteries and tombstone art. Cemeteries sit like quiet oasis' in the middle of bustling crowds, allowing you to sit a moment, close your eyes, and relax completely. They are also like semi-private museums. Public museums are busy and crowded and often charge a visitation fee, yet cemeteries have few people visiting them and display handcrafted art done with deep love.

Cemeteries are also filled with history, giving the names and dates of people who helped to create the very communities we are living in or visiting. Few people appreciate all that they have to offer. My favorite hobby is photographing cemetery sculpture and monumental gravestones.

As a historian and a genealogist and a taphophile, I love Cemeteries.
Visit one sometime when you are really feeling stressed out. Sit on a quiet bench, close your eyes, take deep, slow breaths, and let your mind drift. You'll soon find yourself relaxed. Just sit a while and enjoy the solitude. But before you leave, take a moment to think about some of those who came before us and those who lovingly created monuments in stone so others would not forget they existed and were loved.
