WARNING! THIS IS NOT HEALTH FOOD!

I (and some of my friends) "collect" restaurants, especially diners featuring
homecooking. Here are some of our Arkansas favorites (look below for a link to other states):

Neal's Cafe in Springdale (Hwy 412 between Huntsville Rd. and Backus).

My vote for best fried chicken ever. Also wins the award, hands down, for ambience. Not recommended for vegetarians. Look for the pink concrete block building with the neon chicken out front. Excellent pie.

The Rolling Pin in Fayetteville (Hwy 16 East at Bob's Market).

My overall favorite for blue plate special. Best biscuits in Fayetteville. Ambience approaches Neal's, but it doesn't have the patina of years yet. Until recently, the only restaurant where you could find macaroni and cheese as a daily special (Wednesday) but they've recently changed the menu -- the mac is gone! Great coconut cream pie.

Rick's Iron Skillet (Hwy 71 south in Fayetteville, just past the bus station).

Lots of lunch for the money -- they even include dessert. David recommends the hot sausage at breakfast. Check out their collection of antique toy cars and trucks.

Bubba's Barbeque (in Eureka Springs).

World famous (or it should be) and my pick for best barbeque. Wins the prize for most unusual Last Supper, though it is not always displayed.

Penguin Ed's Barbeque (Crossover and Hwy 45 in Fayetteville).

My second favorite barbeque and all-around nicest lunch spot. More contemporary, but very homey just the same. Try the Poke Salad Annie or the Smoked Chicken Salad.

Brenda's Bigger Burger (6th Street in Fayetteville).

Best old-fashioned burgers in town. This is a walk-up only place, so you'll have to take it to go. David recommends the Evergreen Cemetery for a "Brendacious picnic, but please don't litter."

The Old South (in Russellville, Arkansas).

Don't miss trying the Old South salad dressing. Also, a lot of food for the money with the blue plate special -- dessert included.

Cable Car Pizza (off of Dickson Street in Fayetteville).

Not blue plate, but excellent pizza. Their house Italian dressing makes great dip for the leftover crusts.

Fuzzy's (Garland Ave., near Oak Plaza in Fayetteville).

Beth recommends the Beef Eater -- prime rib on parmesan toasted bread, with a horseradish dip.

Antonio's (in Johnson, Arkansas).

This list would not be complete without an old favorite. Go for the homey (almost too homey) ambience if for nothing else, but you'll like the Italian food, too. Bring your own wine.
