The icon "The Old Testament Trinity" by Andrei Rublev was painted for iconostasis of the Cathedral of the Trinity in the Trinity St. Sergius Monastery. In the late 16th century it was embellished with a new mounting (borders, diadems, background, panagia) by Tsar Boris Godunov. The former gold mounting of Ivan IV was applied to the copy of the icon which was especially painted for the occasion. Boris Godunov's mounting mostly repeated the composition of the earlier one. In 1626 Tsar Mikhail Romanov donated for the icon gold enamelled crescents inset with jewels. In the eighteenth century silver gilt plating was put over the angels' clothes, chambers, and the oak tree.
