Trinity St. Sergius Monastery, 1456
Goldsmith Ambrose
Gold, walnut
Engraving, filigree
1o.7x7.5x1.5 cm
The gold mounting of the triptych testifies to the development of filigree technique in the fifteenth century. The filigree work is in high relief. Scrolls with small sprouts are scattered all over the surface of the mounting, enhancing the picturesqueness of the ornamentation. Master Ambrose used both twisted and flat gold wire. The triptych was made by order of Vassian Rylo, Father Superior of the Trinity St. Sergius Monastery.
