PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY

VIRGINIA

On a cold winter day in January 1941, I was born in a log cabin on my daddy's farm at Blairs in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. From that day until August 1996, my only time to live outside of that county was the four years I served in the U. S. Air Force.1 Both of my parents' families have been there for generations. So it's not unusual that I have a great love for Pittsylvania County, Virginia: its people, its land and its history.

I've spent years studying the earliest settlers of these foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some of my findings are shown on these pages, plus the VA-NC Piedmont Genealogical Society has posters and publications listed at their web site.

1Part of my life has been lived in Danville, Virginia. As a Virginia city, it is a totally separate entity from the county, although geographically it lies within Pittsylvania County.
