Thomas Linard Papers & Publications

My work upon French Baha’i bibliography and the history of the terms Babi and Baha’i in the French language has resulted in two publications:

• Bibliographie des ouvrages de langue française mentionnant les religions babie ou baha’ie (1844–1944). H-Bahai site: 2002 (5th version). (Local copy here.)
• Article Baha’ie, –ie for the Addenda pour le TLF de l’an 2000 of the Trésor de la Langue Française. Dictionnaire de la langue du 19^e et du 20^e siècle (1789–1960) (16 vol., Paris: Éditions du Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, 1971–1994), a publication of the Institut National de la Langue Française.

  1. ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s Epistle to Paris – Three translations. Probably the most important tablet to the Parisian community (or, at least, some clues give the impression that the community of that time considered it that way). The first translation is in French and the remaining two in English.
  2. Babysme, by Pierre Larousse (from the Grand Dictionnaire Universel du 19^e siècle, 1867).
  3. Baha’u’llah’s Lawh-i ra’is, French translation by Hippolyte Dreyfus-Barney.
