"Twilight" by Sue
The world shrouded in a blanket of stillness,
save for the reverberation of my footsteps
upon the smooth, ebony path unravelling before me.
Lugubrious is the dark veil that shadows this place
with an eerie haze of concealment.
The crisp, cool air of night bites my cheeks,
painting them with rosiness;
the moist breeze caresses my visage
with the most tender of kisses.
The scent of damp earth penetrates my nostrils,
and fills my lungs with a dewy sweetness.
I breathe deeply, and as I exhale,
the moonlight dances upon the trail of misty breath
which rises from my ruby lips.
The moon is an orb of radiance, her milky silver-white brilliance
illuminates the shadowy cloak of twilight.
Above me, the heavens are ablaze with the cryptic northern lights
who's flames seem to burn brightly against the horizon.
The ancient constellations travel the indigo firmament
telling tales of forgotten lore.
They are tiny pinpricks of light,
shining through a dark canvas of satin
stretching across the heavens.
A nocturnal euphony of mysteries pervades.
Salt stains my melancholy lips,
and I continue my pensive journey.
