The Escapades of Youth
The Republic of old is gone. The Jedi are extinct. The Empire is. These are the truth of the New Order.
It was an uncertain time. The ancient Republic continued to recede into the myth and stories of the denizens of the galaxy. As the Republic died, the Empire was born. As president, Palpatine rescinded rights and opportunity in the name of stability and order. As emperor, this continued. Where laws and resolution paved a path, now troops and star destroyers found themselves.
Many were happy to see the changes, others were not as thrilled. But if the old Republicans and the Imperial military fell in line, who would stand against the growing darkness? Those who disagreed or were revolted by Palpatine’s ruthlessness were too few and too scattered to act. Many, who did fight or argue, disappeared or were made “examples” of. Others, some with power, others whole populaces, also disagreed. But they bid their time, knowing sentiment and logistics stood too securely against them to act. It was their time to wait.
And what of the fabled Jedi Knights? Where were the guardians of the galaxy, now when the people needed their voices and presence? Gone. Among the first to fall to Palpatine were the greatest of threats to him. Some “Jedi” and many that had waited for the chance acted when Palpatine opened the door. Minions, like Lord Vader, meted out Imperial justice on the Order and all who may have risen with the Force against them. Those that fled or hid were hunted. Now, only a mere trace of the Order and the Jedi yet exists. Some huddled in ancient places, or were hidden by old friends, and some fled beyond the reach of the Emperor’s New Order.
Who is left to stand now? No one. Without the Jedi to rally behind, without the true face of the Empire showing, those that would stand and die for their freedom wait, gathering, bolstering, stockpiling, and planning. The time for rebellion is not yet at hand. Instead the Empire rules unquestioned, rebellious leaders plot, the persecuted struggle to survive, and the young, as always, push headlong into their futures.
