REVOLUTION

Prologue

Ship’s Log Stardate 18605.27

Captain John Samarra reporting. The Endeavor is currently continuing in route to the planet Debrock. The sentient beings of Debrock are an amphibious species, a great deal like the Terran frog, in evolutionary origins. Debrock is, currently, an unaligned world on the Federation side of the Federation/Romulan Neutral Zone. It is a relatively hospitable Class M world.

During the General War it was left unmolested by the various forces passing through the sector. This was generally due to the fact it had little, if anything, of value. So, mostly free traders came and went through the planetary system. Still, shortly after the war ended a Federation survey team detected a rich source of dilithium on the planet. This fact has moved it up on the list of desirable worlds to join the Federation. So, the Federation began communicating with the planet's relatively new world government on the possibilities of Federation membership. The contacts on this went relatively well.

Still many members of the species were wary of membership. It offered safety, but it can limit many cultural and business opportunities. Still though, good PR and hard work, to show the intrinsic value of Federation membership, the Debrockians have been mostly convinced that the Federation does offer them the best potential to succeed and grow in a galactic society. I couldn’t agree more. The planet now has achieved all the necessary requirements for probationary membership. All that is left is a planetary vote. As far as I, or Starfleet, can tell, this will be a strong victory.

To show Federation support, interest, and what Starfleet offers, we have been temporarily assigned to Debrock. We’ll be watching the legitimacy of the voting and act as representatives of Federation interests and galactic cooperation. Already on the planet are Ambassador Shallert and her staff, mediating problems, answering concerns, and putting a good spin on membership. This should be an easy assignment as the Debrockians have been shown to be a generally peaceful race. Of course, the Romulans have been shown to be otherwise. A new world along the border joining the Federation isn’t something they ever look forward to. I’m sure that’s another, unmentioned, reason we're being sent in.

The amphibian guard carefully ran his hand over a row of disruptor rifles, all gleaming in the warehouse’s dim lights. The rifles gleamed in the warehouse’s dim lights. He marveled at them and what they would do to forward his people’s movement. The All Amphibians Revolutionary People’s Front would be heard and would guide Debrock from the decadent perversions of the bourgeois Federation. He and his comrades would do this and his cabal would strike the first blow, now.

Hearing movement behind him, the young revolutionary stood away from the racks of rifles at attention, awaiting his superiors. The hallway he looked down was nearly pitch black, but that hardly mattered to the powerful eyes of the average Debrockian. In the darkness he made out a figure, tall, thin, and rigidly disciplined. He knew well who it was, the benefactor of Debrock, the being who came with an answer to the looming threat of the Federation conspiracy, Comrade Marcus Tal, of the Romulan Union.

He stood tall, awaiting this great and heroic figure. As Tal entered the main area of the warehouse, he took quick notice of the guard standing ready and led a line of other Debrockians in. The line entered, carrying crates of munitions. Following behind the convoy of supplies was an elder Debrockian, G’rht. G’rht was the wise and dignified politician who first learned of the great socialist ideals and the one to enlist Romulan’s aid in the endeavor. The elder statesman stood quietly in the door, surveying the work and the growing arsenal.

Tal, finishing some details on a datapad, slowly stepped over to G’rht.

G’rht peered at the Romulan. “Are we ready yet?”

The Romulan Praetor sighed before saying, “Almost. You must learn patience, it is a great resource to the Romulans and…and of course to any great worker's movement. We need to ensure that you are properly armed and trained. Then you will take your rightful place.”

“I know, but the vote is looming over us. If we don’t act soon, with more then idle words, all will be lost. I’ve invested too much in the AARPF to let it all fail." Pausing, G'rht decided to add something, saying, "The people deserve that, of course.”

Raising an eyebrow, he studied the Debrockian. “Of course. We have a timetable. We have a plan. We have the necessary time to prepare and act to keep your world from the hands of…of…”

The young guard unintentionally cut in. “Capitalist running dogs?”

The two looked at him a second before Tal turned back and said, “Trust in us, G’rht, comrades in arms.” Patting the elder on the shoulder Marcus Tal left the area.

G’rht looked at the guard. “When they’re done unloading, make sure no one enters. Is that understood?”

Standing at attention again, he said, “Yes comrade.”

Quickly, the procession began to file out. One revolutionary took the rear and, as the rest disappeared down the hall, stopped.

Looking at the guard in a conspiratorial manner, whispered, “All is ready. Are you prepared?”

Whispering back, he said, “Yes. Tonight we should be able to make away with enough to fulfill our goals and begin the liberation of our world.

“Excellent.”

“Are you prepared? This may be a deadly endeavor.”

Looking proudly at his cohort, he said, “Nothing will stop us from breaching the palace and reaching the decadent Federation pig representatives inside.”
