The Purpose
The main purpose of the Upward Bound Program at Morgan State University is to help
high school students, from local schools, succeed in all the classes and social aspects
they will need to lead a successful life in the real world. The program offers a unique
learning environment to participating freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The
program seeks to motivate students to attend college, by offering them a more realistic
perspective of contemporary college life, its demands and rewards, through a first-hand
study. The program counsels, motivates, and prepares students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
for success in post-secondary institutions such as two and four year institutions.
The program also gives students, that are having trouble in the current classes,
tutoring on Saturdays, during the school year. The program also gives students a chance to
get a feel for the classes they will be taking the fall, during the summer residential
stay on campus.
