is organized by University of Cambridge. It is a very popular exam in Poland. There is also a higher step - CAE Certificate Advanced English
In FCE you have 5 sections (called papers), some containing few parts:
- Paper 1: Reading -1 hour 15 min:
- multiple, matching questions 6-7, a text preceded by multiple matching questions,
- multiple, choice q 7-8 a text followed by multiple choice questions with four options ABCD
- gapped text, a text from which 6-7 paragraphs have been removed & put in jumbled order after the text. The task is to fit the missing text into the gaps

2. Paper 2: Writing - 1 hour 30 min:
- transactional letter 120 -180 words
- choice of 3 tasks each 120 -180 words (article, report, application, story, informal letter)
3. Paper 3: Use of English - 1 hour 15 min:
- multiple choice gapfill, testing mainly vocabulary, 15 gaps each has 4 options ABCD
- open gapfill, testing grammar & vocabulary, text with 15 gaps, no answers given
- key word transformations, a complete sentence followed by a gapped sentence, which must be completed using a given word
- error correction, a text with some correct lines & some lines containing an extra & unnecessary word. Identify extra words
- word formation, a text with 10 gaps, each of which must be filled with a word formed from a given root word
4. Paper 4: Listening - 40 min:
- multiple choice, q 8
- note taking or blank filling , q 10
- multiple matching, q 5
- selecting from 2 or 3 possible answers , q 7
5. Paper 5: Speaking - 15 min:
- introduction of candidate 4mins
- 2 candidates talk about 2 pictures, comparing and contrasting 4 mins
- talking to each other
- candidates exchange opinions with each other
