Managing Programs on the Desktop

Launch several of your programs. If you're not sure what, you can launch Windows Explorer, Word Pad, and Notepad for starters. Word Pad and Notepad are in the Accessories group in the Start Menu Programs.

Note that all of the programs you launched are represented in the active area of the Task Bar. Also, clicking on any one of them brings that program to the top of the pile on your desktop and makes it active.

Click the Show Desktop icon in the quick start area of the Task Bar. In Windows95, you can click the Microsoft flag key (between Ctrl and Alt) plus M ... and ALL the program windows disappear from the Desktop, but are all still represented in the active area of the Task Bar.

Open another copy of your browser while leaving this one running. Go to a web site in it. Let's see now, hmm hey, it might even be mine, why not, what the heck, go for it, stand up, be brave ... http://geocities.datacellar.net/buddychai/ ... then bring this one back on top by clicking its block in the active area of the Task Bar. All right? ... Now flip back and forth between them by clicking their blocks in the active area of the Task Bar... again, another example of multitasking.
