Cultural Information

Consider the point of view of other cultures before presenting visual information. Symbols and colors do not have the same meaning in all cultures. What is appropriate in one culture is not necessarily appropriate in other cultures.

An image that may not offend the designer may be highly offensive to an overseas market. It is imperative to find out what other cultures find acceptable and offensive in visual and audio media.

When writing for an audience that is a subset of your culture, you can be sure that your users understand your references, metaphors, icons, and colors that your use. When writing for an audience that is not part of your own culture, however, you can be sure of none of this.
