1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Son Peter is to have the plantation, then in his possession, which his father had purchased from David Devos, after paying 2 legacies of 50 pounds each to 2 of John's daughters., p. 233.

On 3 April 1784 when Peter was 32, he married Nautchy / Hannah Cornell, in Middlesex Co., NJ. Nautchy / Hannah died on 28 February 1802. Buried in Buckelew Burying Ground, New Brunswick TWP, Middlesex Co., NJ.

272. Frederick Buckalew. Born on 14 February 1756 in North Brunswick, NJ. Frederick died in North Brunswick, NJ, on 12 February 1825; he was 68. Buried in Old Buckelew Farm, Georges Road, NJ.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Two of John's sons, Frederick & Obadiah, were to receive the homestead or plantation where their father then lived. After the father's death, the property is to be equally divided, along with 12 acres of salt meadow bought from the estate of ?Dirck Schyler, deceased. Sons Frederick & Obadiah were to "decently and comfortably maintain" their mother on the farm which they would possess after their father's death, and she was to have the "best bed, bedding and furniture.", p. 233.

On 17 April 1795 when Frederick was 39, he married Phebe Messerole, in New Brunswick (Dutch) Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ.

273. John Buckalew , Jr. Born on 2 April 1756 in New Brunswick, NJ. John died on 26 December 1837; he was 81. Buried in Brainerd Cem., Cranbury, NJ.

The dates following pertaining to John Buckalew and his descendants are from a typed copy of a Bible record from the Genealogical Society of NJ.

Note from the owner of the Bible: As far as I know, John Manley was from New Brunswick. John Buckelew and Eleanor Manley were married Mar. 17, 1805 in Middlesex Co. Lewis C. Buckelew was a blacksmith in Freehold, NJ. Andrew S. Buckelew was born in Perrinville, NJ. Caroline Striker was daughter of Elias Stryker of Freehold, NJ. Andrew & Caroline Buckelew are buried at Old Brick Church, Marlboro.

Note by Al Stokes: John Buckelew is the son of John Buckelew and Mary Allen. This record presents only his second marriage. He was first married to Anna Manley, also a daughter of John and Charity Manley. John and both wives are buried in Brainerd Cemetery in Cranbury, NJ. The Manleys attended the Six Mile Run Reformed Church where their children were baptised. Anna on Jan. 20, 1765, and Neitye (Eleanor) on Sept. 6, 1767. The tombstone for Eleanor in the Cranbury graveyard is misleading. It reads "died Feb. 14, 1845, aged 71 years, 5 months and 5 day." Other stones read "John Buckelew died Dec. 26, 1837 in 82nd year" and "Anna Manley, wife of John Buckelew died Sept. 26, 1804 in 40th year." The baptism of three children of John and Anna Manley Buckelew are recorded at the Dutch Reformed Church in New Brunswick on Mar. 30, 1794, namely John Manley Buckelew, Peter Buckelew and Richard Manley Buckelew.

"Peter BUCKELEW, John BUCKELEW, and Richard BUCKELEW were all born in New Brunswick, NJ and were all baptized at the Dutch Reformed Church in New Brunswick on 30 Mar 1794. Richard BUCKELEW married Sarah JOHNSON, daughter of Abraham JOHNSON and Mary __________ of Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ."

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Son John was to receive five pounds York currency one year after his father's death., p. 233.

About 1787 when John was 30, he first married Anna Manley, daughter of John Manley & Charity. Born on 4 January 1764 in New Brunswick, NJ. Anna died on 26 September 1804; she was 40. Buried in Brainerd Cem., Cranbury, NJ.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Son Abraham was to be given the land then in his possession, part of which his father purchased from Col. John Neilson/Heilson and part from Cornelieus Cornell, deceased. Abraham was also to have 2 and 1/2 ac. of salt meadow bought from Lucas ?Doorhus., p. 233.

On 26 June 1806 when Abraham was 49, he married Eliza Provost, in Middlesex Co., NJ.

275. Obadiah Buckalew. Born on 8 July 1766. Obadiah died on 12 March 1847; he was 80. Buried in Van Lieu Cem., North Brunswick, NJ/Old Buckelew Farm, Georges Road, NJ.

On 30 December 1795 when Obadiah was 29, he married Abigail Denton, daughter of Anthony Denton & Margaret Gilliland, in Middlesex Co., NJ. Born on 3 January 1770. Abigail died on 23 January 1834; she was 64. Buried in Van Lieu Cem., North Brunswick, NJ/Old Buckelew Farm, Georges Road, NJ.

276. Zachariah Buckalew. Born on 19 February 1772. Zachariah died on 7 March 1837; he was 65. Buried in Old Buckelew Farm, Georges Road, NJ.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Son Zachariah was to have the plantation where his brother John lately lived, which plantation was bought from Jonathan Prevost. Zachariah was required first to pay two legacies of 50 pounds each to two of his sisters.

On 27 February 1795 when Zachariah was 23, he married Phebe Bennett, in New Brunswick (Dutch) Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ. Born on 12 February 1774. Phebe died on 2 July 1856; she was 82. Buried in Old Buckelew Farm, Georges Road, NJ. Nickname: Fanny.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Daughter Hannah Prevost, wife of Peter, was to receive 25 pounds York currency out of the personal estate one year after her father's death., p. 233.

In 1767 Hannah first married Peter Praa Provost, son of Jonathan Provost (18 February 1722-1805) & Adriana / Areyanti Springsteen (21 August 1720-), in New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ. Born on 24 April 1748. Date is baptism. At the age of <1, Peter Praa was baptized on 24 April 1748. Peter Praa died in 1831; he was 82.

The initial information that I received about the issue of Peter Praa and Hannah (Buckalew) Provost was received 15 July 2004 from Douglas C. Buckelew.

On 7 January 1796 Elizabeth married Jonathan Meserole, in New Brunswick (Dutch) Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co, NJ.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Daughter Anne Dehart, wife of John Dehart, was to receive 50 pounds from her brother Peter Buckelew when called for by her or her legal representatives., p. 233.

On 17 April 1795 Lydia married Peter Bennett, in New Brunswick (Dutch) Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ.

283. Margaret Buckalew. Margaret was baptized in 1st Pres Ch, Cranbury, Middlesex Co., NJ, on 3 December 1807.

1795, 3 Apr; Middlesex Co., NJ Will of John "Burkerlew": Daughter Abigail Prevost, wife of Jonathan Prevost, deceased, is to have 50 pounds a year after her father's death., p. 233.

Abigail married Jonathan Prevost.

285. David Buckalew.

David as a son of John Buckelew is my conjecture based on his being married at the New Brunswick Dutch Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ, in a period of three years (1795-1797) along with four known children of John: Elizabeth, Frederick, Lydia and Zachariah (Zakariab).

On 2 March 1797 David married Ann Caywood, in New Brunswick (Dutch) Reformed Church, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co, NJ.

They had one child:
