Mrs. Adelia BUCKALEW
The funeral Monday of Mrs. Adelia BUCKELEW who died in Detroit Aprli 28, 1911, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. S. BOYD, marks the passing of another of the pioneers of Michigan.
The deceased whose maiden name was HOPKINS was born in Haly Hill, Yates county, New York, Sept. 30, 1829. Not long after her marriage to Peter BUCKELEW they came to Michigan and settled in Washtenaw county.
Soon after the Civil war began her husband, answering the call of his country, enlisted in the 9th Michigan infantry in which he served as a private until the close of the war. His health was broken however and he survived his discharge but a short time leaving the widow and nine children to mourn his death and begin anew the struggle for existence.
The widow then removed to the township of Howell where on a small farm she resolutely face her situation with such courage, industry and economy the she kept her family together nutil they were able to provide for themselves.
She is survived today by six daughters and one son, numerous grand and great grandchildren. ...
