Photo on p.461 of "Buckelew Traces," Issue 3. Grew up in hard times on the TX frontier. He scarcely could remember his father, also Berry, who was killed by Indians in Bandera Co. in 1866. He and Susan Maria Jackson raised a family of 12 children; only five of whom were born when the picture was taken about 1895-1896. A photo of his sister's family (the Joe Holts) is on p. 463. Also, Berry's daughter, Aramentia, later married Thomas W. Hill, the grandson of the Thomas M. Hill, pictured on p. 462. Is it any wonder whay we have trouble keeping everybody straight? Family charts for Berry Buckelew II are on pp. 147-152.

Les,

Robert Hall Buckelew was a son of Little Berry Champion who was killed by Indians. He went to Canada and became a citizen.  He came back to Texas several times and wanted to become an American citizen but would go back to Canada before the 6 year requirement was fulfilled.  He was living with my family when he and my aunt Seletia Ann Buckelew Reed and her son were.  She was eligible to apply for homestead land in Wyoming so he went with her and her son to Wyoming in 1929. He died in Worland, Wyoming several years later.  I still have some of the books he left with my family when they went to Wyoming and have pictures of him. Marjorie Buckelew Bays

On 25 November 1896 when Robert Hall / Henry (?) was 30, he married Elizabeth Susana Allen, in Socorro, NM. Born on 4 January 1864 in Allentown, PA. Elizabeth Susana died on 3 June 1931; she was 67. Buried in Apache Cem., Apached, Cochise Co., AZ. Nickname: Susie. They were divorced in 1910.

Conjecture, subject to correction by proven contrary information: That Elizabeth Susana Allen was the wife of Robert Hall Buckelew, b. 28 Nov 1865. Previous information simply named his wife simply as "Susie."

She the grandmother of Peggy Noland Boss who lives in the Chiricahua Mtns on the Boss Ranch. This is what Peggy wrote up for her in our Apache Cemetery book:

Elizabeth Susana (Allen) Buckelew was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on January 4,1864. Susana did not get along well with her parents. At age fifteen, Susana left Allentown to travel west with a family by the name of Brooks. When a wagon train was traveling through Kansas, Susana met and married Martin Van B. Noland on April 5th, 1879. Susana was fifteen
years old and Martin was forty-three. The Nolands left the wagon train in about 1881 when it was in Colorado. Martin worked on the railroad and Susana took in washing from the rail road workers. Their first child, Mary Margaret (Eaton) was born in
either Kansas or Colorado just before they left the wagon train. Note by Peggy Boss: "When I was young I heard they left the wagon train because some of the women were trying to take the baby away from them because Susana was so young." While in Colorado their second child Kate (Washburn) was born. From the money saved from Martin's working for the railroad and Susana taking in washing the family bought some Durham cattle. On April 13, 1883, they moved the cattle and their Steeldust and Morgan horses that Martin had brought from Kentucky to Arizona
settling on the Blue River in l885. While on the Blue the Nolands had five sons and one daughter. Of these eight children, four are buried at the Apache Cemetery, Mary Margaret, Kate, Charles, and Martin Van Jr. After the death of Martin Van Noland Sr. in 1893 Susana found life hard. In 1896 she married Henry Buckelew and moved her family and livestock to the southeast corner of the Arizona Territory. One daughter was born to this marriage. Susana divorced Henry Buckelew in 1910, but continued to ranch near Apache, Arizona until her death in 1931 on June 3. Submitted by Peggy Boss, P. 0. Box 1079, Douglas, AZ in 1995. Pat Bennett

They had one child:
4992 i. Audie Lee (1897-)
