"In 1852 elected Justice of the Peace of Lewis township; re-elected in 1882.
1855, 10 Aug.; Clay Co., IN, Deed: James (signed name) Buckallew and wife, Mahala (signed name), to Joel Austin Buckallew, 80 acres in 2 tracts in the Vicennes Land Dist. The first was the NE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 28; and the second was the S 1/2 of the N 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Sec. 29, all in T9N, R7W. Wit. by and acknowledged before William L. Buckallew, JP.

"Successful in his efforts, owning 82 splendid acres after giving forty to each of his children. His land was well cultivated, improved and stocked.

- $1200; Lewis Twp; b. Harrison Co. in 1828; came to this Co. 1829; farmer; relig. - Regular Baptist; pol. - Democrat."

On 13 January 1872 when James D. was 21, he married Mary M. Worth, in Clay Co., IN. Born about 1854. Mary M. died on 6 August 1911; she was 57.

On 28 December 1872 when Sarah E. was 19, she married William B. Littell, in Clay Co., IN. Born about 1853.

3068. Joel T. Buckalew. Born about 1856 in Clay Co., IN. Joel T. died in 1932; he was 76.

1877, 23 Apr; Clay Co., IN, Deed: Wm. L. Buckallew to J.T. Buckallew for $500, 40 acres, NE of NE of 33/9/7. Rec. 20 Jun 1877.

On 13 March 1883 when Joel T. was 27, he first married Manilda J. Worth, in Clay Co., IN.

On 25 December 1883 when Joel T. was 27, he second married Sarah E. Baker, in Clay Co., IN.
