My grandmother, Ola Pansy Buckelew Jernigan died in Fort Worth, Texas February 12, 2001.

She was born to Alfred Lee Buckelew and Mittie Olive Johnson Buckelew in Denton County on August 31, 1912. Her first husband was Chesley Dee Buckelew and her second was James Granville Jernigan. Ola Pansy had five children. Only two survived to adulthood: Julia Pearl Buckelew Welch Scales and Elmer Douglas Buckelew. There were five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ola Pansy had a hard childhood. Many lessons were learned by her grandchildren. She gave individual attention to each child. We all called her "Granny". She always had time to listen to our problems and gave a lot of advice. Some of her advice was not wanted because it sounded old fashioned. Granny was almost always correct and would rub it in.

I always believed that the old house at the top of the hill was my second home. It sold within two weeks of her death. It seems odd to drive up the familiar street and see a new family with small children living there. I decided that she would have wanted a young family there. I can hear her say now, " If it was good enough for my children to live here, it is good enough for anyone else to live here."  I suppose that statement only has meaning for myself and my siblings. I do miss her.

Les, you requested a short obit. I got carried away. Granny has been on my mind often lately. I finished going through everything I inherited from her. I laughed and cried over memories of each item. It must seem silly; but, I still feel her presence around me...   Gayla
