Tenth Generation (Continued)

Family of Mary A. Cowart (2929) & Samuel Ellison

4993. Sallie B. Ellison. Born on 22 April 1865. Sallie B. died on 25 May 1875; she was 10. Buried in Sentel Cem., Nr Ramer, AL.

On her tombstone, her birth year is given in apparent error as 1879, impossible since her mother died in 1875. I'm guessing she was born in 1869. An inscription says, "A fairer ?bid of promise never bloomed."

Mary West has her yob as 1865 and her yod as 1875.

4994. James H. Ellison. Born on 23 September 1868 in Montgomery Co., AL. James H. died in Montgomery Co., AL, on 4 October 1868; he was <1.

4995. Louisa Ellison. Born on 16 August 1869 in Montgomery Co., AL. Louisa died on 21 August 1957; she was 88. Nickname: Ludie.

Living May 1881 in Crenshaw Co., AL

On 6 January 1887 when Louisa was 17, she married William Green Hudgens, in Crenshaw Co., AL.

They had the following children:
7588 i. Shorter
7589 ii. Estelle

4996. Caroline Ellison. Born on 3 August 1872 in Montgomery Co., AL. Caroline died in Cleburns, TX, on 25 February 1899; she was 26. Buried on 2 March 1899 in Rutledge Cem., Crenshaw Co., AL. Nickname: Callie.

From Luverne Journal, 23 March 1899; Luverne, AL: "Callie Burns (nee Ellison) was born August 3, 1872, and died Feb. 24, 1899. In her 15th year she was married to Mr. S.J.B. Burns, who with four little children survive to mourn a loss irreparable. She joined the Primitive Baptist Church in a few years after she was married. She was a devoted wife, a prudent and doting mother, a loving daughter, a sweet sister, and ardent friend and a kind neighbor. She and her husband and children moved to Texas last December, in a short time she took the measles complicated with pneumonia. The doctor thought she was getting along splendid and on Sunday morning about 5:00 o'clock her husband got up and covered her up, a little later, Ralph, her oldest son, gave her a drink of water and they thought she went to sleep again. They did not hear her make any noise, in a short time one of the neighbors came in to see how she was and she was dead. She was shipped home to her home and buried at Rutledge Cemetery on Thursday March 2nd. Attended by a large crowd of relatives and friends who mourn her death. Her husband and children are still in Cleburns, Texas. They will return to their old home when they are able. They all had measles and one of the children is still very low." Source: "Crenshaw County Alabama Newspaper Abstracts, 1890-1899," published by the Luverne Historical Society. Note from Juanita Chaput: See page 159 - "Mary's People" to identify Caroline Ellison. Caroline was niece of my grandmother, Mary Ella Gardner - pg. 160.)

On 25 December 1887 when Caroline was 15, she married Samuel J. Burns, son of Archibald Burns (about 1820-about 1901) & Margaret Susan Allen (about 1830-about 1903), in Crenshaw Co., AL. Born in 1865. Samuel J. died after 1899; he was 34. Buried in Rutledge Cem. Nickname: Sam.

I was copying some info from the Buckelew pages I had printed out last year and saw something I couldn't figure out -- Mary Caroline Buckelew and her brother James Madison (#s 355 & 356) were born w/in about 5 months of each other.

By the way, I am a descend. of Mary Caroline. Her daughter Mary married Sam Ellison. Their son George (Mary died giving birth to him) was my grandfather.
Mary West

George Lafayette married Adellle Virginia Sexton. Buried in Cool Springs Cem., Opp, AL.

"...lived from 1923 to 1965 as a widow. She owned a dairy, a hotel and a restaurant in Montgomery with only 3 months of formal education."
