My name is Calvin Luther Buckelew and I live in Moss Point, MS. My father is Ray Tilman Buckelew (87 years old) and my Grandfather was Frank Walton Buckelew both from the Laurel, MS area. My Grandfather's oldest brother was named Earnest and he lived in Lancaster, S.C. I remember seeing him in the early 1950's when he came to my Grandfather's for a visit. His wife was called Willie but I do not know her full name or her maiden name. My dad told me he ran a five and ten cent store called "Buckelew Variety Store" or something like that in Lancaster, S.C. They had two daughters but I don't know their names. They would have been around my dad's age if they are still living.

Last week I was in the South Carolina area so I drove through Lancaster to see if I could find anything related to my Great Uncle Earnest Buckelew.

The only thing I could find was a city park named "Buckelew Park" and a street one block long along the East side of the park named "Buckelew" street. None of the people I talked to (all in their forties or fifties) remembered the "Buckelew Variety Store" on knew anything about the history of the park. I believe there is some connection and was wondering if you
might have any information.

I have a digital picture of the sign at the park and the street sign that I could e-mail you if you are interested in having them. V/R Calvin

25 Sep 1995: Had in my files simply as "Walton" until speaking by phone this evening to Traci Powell (Rt 3, Box 418B; Ellisville, MS 39437; [601] 477-3214). Also, she referred to Jacob's middle initial as being "G," whereas until this time I was not sure as to whether it was "G" or "S."

On 22 January 1908 when Frank Walton was 16, he married Effie Evelyn Allred, in Jones Co., MS. Born on 23 July 1890 in Clark Co., MS. Effie Evelyn died on 20 July 1984; she was 93.

They had the following children:

Jacob LaFayette married Dovie Walker (Private).
6771. Clara Mabel Buckalew. Born on 18 November 1895. Clara Mabel died on 25 December 1978; she was 83.

Clara Mabel married George Watson Vines.

They had the following children:
