Died at 7:13 p.m. , February 5, 1998 at Saint Joseph Hospital. At the time of her death she was surrounded by family and friends who loved her. She had suffered for approximately 6 months with cancer. She had uterine cancer approximately 4 years prior to her death. Eventually the cancer spread to her right lung, trahea, and liver. A strong lady, she fought till the end. She enjoyed live and loved watching her grandchildren grow up, play sports, and participate in their various school activities. Her children remember that she always baked two pies on Sunday and cut each pie into six pieces. By Tuesdays there were only 4 pieces left. She would cut these in half and give one to her husband and each of their sons. She would say that she did not want any. This is an example of how generous she was. She is remembered also for all of the fun the family had tent-camping. On Sundays she would cook something (usually noodles) and all of the family--including aunts, uncles and their children would come to her house. Those gathered would play softball, and sit under the big trees and have a great time. (Above information provided by son David Alan Buckalew.)
