"Travellers in the Mountain" Fan Kuan. northern Sung dynasty
(click on the image for a larger view) This incredible painting is a hallmark of Chinese landscape. With it's magnicent mountain, it reflects the "grandeur" of Chinese landscape of this period. His attention to detail is astounding, allowing the eye to wander about, like the travellers.


Jade pendant
Jade was seen as a divine material in China. Connoiseurship revolved around detail, craftsmanship and purity of stone. This pendant, with its swirling pattern, reflects the taste for curvilinear patterning. This red jade suggests a dragon shape.
