HISTORY: The Pennsylvania Society or Teaching Scholars (PASTS) was organized by the graduates of the 1989 Summer Academy for the Advancement of College Teaching.

PURPOSE: PASTS is dedicated to the enhancement and support of excellence in the teaching and learning process at the higher education level. This Society is dedicated to promotion of a community of teaching scholars who will inquire, create, discuss, and share.

MEMBERSHIP: All graduates of the Summer Academy for the Advancement of College Teaching and those nominated by the graduates.

DUES: At present annual dues are $20 payable at the annual conference.

SUZANNE BROWN EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD: The Society gave the first Annual Award in March 1998 in honor of Dr. Suzanne Brown’s dedication to promoting effective teaching in Higher Education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The first award went to Dr. Mary Ann Cessna of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE: The Society meets annually in March at the Nittany Lion Inn, State College, PA. For pictures from the 1998 Conference, visit this site.
