A mercenary with a shadowy past that's not fully revealed until late in the game. Occasionally called "spike-ass" by Barret (we presume because of his hair style and not his ass).

With a tattoo on one arm and a gun on the other, he's only slightly more alarming as a role model than Dennis Rodman. However, as the leader of the anti-corporate, pro-environmental group, he's a perfect combo of Mr. T and Al Gore.

Tifa Lockheart
This childhood sweetheart of Cloud's is your standard "tough chick with a heart of gold who owns the bar that serves as a secret hideout for the rebel group." In a battle, she really will scratch your eyes out: her weapon of choice is a wicked bladed glove.

Aeris Gainsborough
Decisions, decisions! As Cloud, do you choose this mystical waif or Tifa in the evolving love triangle? Aeris' secret past has brought this humble flower girl from Midgar a lot of unwanted attention from Shinra.

Red XIII
Is he a dog? A cat? A bear? Who knows and who cares: he's got one hell of a bite in combat. You'll rescue this laid-back talking beast from Shinra's unholy laboratories. Don't ask what become of the other twelve.

Cait Sith
He's actually the little guy on top. This fortune teller/gambler/showman from Gold Saucer is perched atop a Mog, a fixture from the other Final Fantasy games. He may not be big, but he's got the megaphone to make sure you don't miss him.

Cid Highwind
If you've played any of the other Final Fantasies, you might recognize this name. But you won't recognize the character. This time around, he's an old pilot who'll help get you around the planet. After all, you can't always ride Chocobos.

Vincent Valentine
Reminiscent of a cyborg version of The Shadow, this righteous fellow was once affiliated with Shinra, like Cloud. But he, too, has had a change of heart.

Yuffie Kisaragi
Yeah, she's a ninja and she's only sixteen. What of it? She's not as obedient as your other party members, but she'll prove valuable while she sticks around to help.

Sephiroth
Every game needs a bete noir. When the game starts, Sephiroth is thought to be long gone, having disappeared after a tragic mishap many years ago. Do you think he'll resurface? Suffice it to say, Shinra isn't your only enemy in Final Fantasy VII.
