Bondage & DisciplineSadism & Masochism© 2006 by Peter Jude Fagan Not too long ago I downloaded a short segment of a movie off the Internet. Many people would call the scene a pornographic video but I see something different. (Nor do I call it pornography.) In the video clip there is a girl in her early twenties who is completed naked and tied to a cross; both her arms and legs are spread apart. The patibulum or crossbeam to which her hands are tied is somewhat longer than the crossbeam to which her feet are tied. She is sitting on a sedile – a piece of wood that is attached to the cross upright or stipes, which then passes between the thighs and supports the perineum. There are clamps attached to each of her nipples, pinching them. Each clamp is connected to a cord that is tied to a weight through a system of pulleys. This apparatus is pulling on her nipples and causing her severe pain. There is also a clamp attached to her clitoris, pinching it. This clamp is also connected to a cord which is tied to the same weight through a system of pulleys. There is a man in the video who is spanking her with a whip and telling her to standup. Her stomach, thighs and the area around her vagina are bright pink from the whipping she is receiving. When she stands on the patibulum to which her feet are tied, the pain in her nipples is lessened somewhat but then the pain inflicted upon her clitoris is increased from the clamp pinching it and the weight pulling on it. To relieve this pain she lets herself down and sits on the sedile but then the pain to her nipples is increased from the clamps pinching them and the weight pulling on them. Meanwhile, the man continues to whip her stomach, thighs and vagina. Whether the young woman is standing up or sitting on the sedile, either her nipples or her clitoris are in agonizing pain. When she stands up her clitoris is in pain and when she sits down her nipples are in pain. She cannot escape from the torment; she is tied to the cross. It’s not in the clip but this up and down motion and torture would have continued until the man put a vibrator to her vagina, masturbated her or had sex with her and brought her to an intense, ecstatic orgasm. For those who would say that I am sadistic towards women, that I’m misogynistic or that I have an excessive desire to humiliate and debase women, I have imagined this exact same scene but with a man tied to the cross. The pain being inflicted upon his nipples and penis from similar clamps, cords, pulleys and weight, while a Dominatrix whips him and then either masturbates him, performs oral sex on him or has intercourse with him. I do not mean to imply by the above that a person has to participate in heavy Bondage & Discipline and Sadism & Masochism (BDSM) in order to enjoy sex or to have life. Each person’s pain threshold is different. Some people have a low tolerance for pain and could never participate in something like I describe above. Yet others have a high tolerance for pain and would not mind experimenting in various types of BDSM sex. Also, everyone defines perverted sex differently. Some people would consider the above extremely perverted, others would enjoy it and still others define perverted sex differently. It is up to each individual to find him or her self and to discover what they enjoy. Sex is an adult gift that can be used to deepen and intensify an adult relationship. However, those who are involved must be careful when indulging in any sex act. This is because playing with sex is much like playing with a loaded gun. If one is not careful then someone could end up hurt or dead. That is why sex is not for children; it is an adult toy. Without the proper sex education, without the proper care and without the proper safeguards someone could end up hurt or dead. (A person’s sex education should start during their middle school years and proceed throughout high school. Further, these sex education courses need to be taught by adults who have a full knowledge of sex, not by someone who has only a general degree in biology. For if we are not giving our children the proper sex education, then we are endangering their future.) There are some people who do not believe that sex is an adult toy. They believe that sex is solely for the procreation of the species. This may have been true of earlier generations, for they did not have the full sex education, safeguards and technology available to them that today’s generations have. One might even say that earlier generations were only children spiritually, whereas today’s generations are adults spiritually. Hence, our Lord allowed – inspired – His Mother Church to teach as She has taught for the protection of His children. Would one allow their five-year-old child to play with a loaded gun? Of course not! But would one force the same restrictions upon their twenty-year-old child? Of Course not! Today, with all the education, safeguards and technology that modern mankind has available, there is no reason not to allow the adult children of God to enjoy to the fullest what God has given to them. Sex outside the marriage is gross materialism. It does not kill the soul but those who participate in it are dead to the word of God while they are alive in this world (1Tim.5:6). They are drunk with materialism. Not that there is anything wrong with seeking material goals. It is just that, as with wine, too much materialism can cause one to act in an illogical manner. That is, too much materialism can cause one to misinterpret and to misunderstand the word of God. But as with pain and tolerance, so also is it with alcohol. Some people have a high tolerance for alcohol consumption and others have a low tolerance. It takes more alcohol to get a person drunk if that person has a high tolerance for alcohol. The same is true with God. Someone with a great love of God and man can tolerate more materialism than another person whose love of God is weak. Thus, to participate in sex outside the marriage can possibly be an insult to our Lord. It could be loving oneself more than one loves God. Such would be like going to a friend’s party and getting drunk. Such would be an insult to the friend. But in either case it does not kill one’s soul because adult consensual sex outside the marriage is not found in the Golden Rule (1Cor.6:16-18). Some may ask why is someone who professes to be a child of God going to BDSM sex and bondage/slavery web sites. I will answer this with the fact that I do nothing unless God directs me to do it, inspires me to do it or causes me to do it. It is my belief that everything I have done or written since March 11, 1971, is the work of God. I liken myself to a poor lost child of God, stranded in a deep, dark forest with only a small light shining down on my feet to guide me. Wherever it moves I must follow it, for I cannot see beyond the small circle of light that it provides. (If I do not follow it, then I walk in complete darkness.) Indeed, even that which I perceive I can only see, as it were, through foggy glasses, which causes me to frequently trip and fall. Then I must work to get back into His graces. But I always end up doing His will. If I don’t call the above video clip pornography what do I call it? I answer that by saying what I have said elsewhere: What some people call pornography others call art and vice versa. What do I see when I watch this video clip? By the time of the Roman Empire, crucifixion had been perfected to inflict as much pain as possible upon its victim. First of all, the victim was frequently given a severe beating with a Roman flagrum before being led out to the site of the crucifixion. The victim was beaten until his flesh was red and raw. Then after carrying the patibulum or crossbeam to the site of the crucifixion, the victim was stripped completely naked and then nailed to it. The patibulum was then attached to the stipes or upright which was already in place. The victim’s feet were then nailed to the stipes. Sometimes – although rarely – there was a sedile attached to the stipes upon which the victim sat. When the victim was hanging down, the pain began in his arms and chest. His chest muscles would then begin to cramp, preventing him from breathing. When he could no longer stand the pain and to relieve the cramping in his chest so that he could breathe, he stood up on the nail that was driven into his feet. The pain in his arms and chest was then lessened somewhat but then the pain inflicted upon his feet and legs was increased, and they would begin to cramp. When he could no longer stand the pain and cramping in his feet and legs, he would let himself fall and hang on the nails driven into the area near despot’s place of the wrist. Whether the victim was standing up on the nail driven into his feet or hanging down with the weight of his body on the nails driven into the wrist/palm area, either his feet and legs or his arms and chest were in agonizing pain. When he rose his feet and legs were in pain and when he fell his arms and chest were in pain. He could not escape from the torment; he was nailed to the cross. This up and down motion would continue until the exhausted victim no longer had enough strength to pick himself up and stand on the nail in his feet. He would then suffocate from the cramping of his chest muscles. The Roman soldiers would often break the legs of the crucifixion victim. This denied them the ability to stand on the nail in their feet and hastened their death. What do I see when I watch the above video clip? I get a small glimpse into the pain our Lord must have suffered when He died on the cross. Those who would claim that the dominant theme of the above video appeals only to the prurient interest in sex, that the material is patently offensive because it affronts contemporary standards relating to the description or representation of sexual matters and that it has no redeeming social value have no idea what it means for something to have literary, artistic, political or scientific value. |
