Wind Ensemble I (1997-1998)

The Wind Ensemble I is composed of approximately 80 of Pearl City's top musicians. Through it's numerous appearances, the band has achieved a reputation for playing some of the most difficult pieces of music with ease. The band has also represented Hawaii and the Nation at music conventions such as the Mid-West Bandmasters Festival in 1991 held in Chicago and the ABA-JBA Convention in 1994. This spring the band will once again represent the State and Nation at the MENC (Music Educators National Convention) held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Along with national conventions, the band plays many local and community concerts. Holding several community concerts throughout the year the band also performs at the Parade of Bands Festival along with many other high school bands across the state.

On Friday, April 17, 1998, at 9:30 in the morning, the Pearl City Wind Ensemble I performed at the Music Educators National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. The concert featured along with the band one of the best trumpet soloist in the world, Allen Vizzutti. On Saturday, March 28 the band held a fundraiser concert with Allen Vizzutti to showcase the band's concert that will be played in Arizona. Below is the program for the band's concert.

Guest conductors at the MENC in Arizona included Colonel John Bourgeois who conducted Belkis, Regina Di Saba, Ken Sato, assciate band director, conducted Rolling Thunder March, and Thomas Kamisato, assistant director conducted Methusala II and Three Winter Scenes. At the end of the band's concert in Arizona, the crowd gave the band a standing ovation, "something that doens't occur too often at the convention," quoted by Master of Ceremony Mr. Gabriel Villasurda.
