A complex of mammoth buildings stand in ruins, leaving us to imagine the scale and the grandeur of these, a thousand years ago. Once, these buildings were the centre of education. Art and sculpture danced here, knowledge flowed.
After the rediscovery, vandalism and theft, and the weather gods were not too kind to the images housed in these premises. Today, they stand in nearby Nalanda museum, encased in modern architecture, the peeling plaster and white-washed walls no match for the bare bricks and silent stone that characterize Nalanda.
