Service Technician:
The service technician must have good reading and comprehension skills as there are continuous changes in control devises and equipment and the technician will have to be able to read and understand written instructions. He/she must have a through knowledge of the different types of refrigerants and application and must obtain certification acceptable to the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. Proficiency of math skills in algebra and trigonometry is imperative. The service technician must have an understanding of the laws, theories, and principles of refrigeration, pressure, enthalpy, entropy (and more) and each and every aspect of the complete air conditioning and refrigeration system as noted in all the previously described levels. This knowledge base must be continually expanded as the industry continues to evolve.
The service technician must have a clear knowledge of:
- duct application, installation, and procedures.
- industry standards and code/ordinances for all phases of HVAC/R.
- load calculations (heat loss/gain).
- system designs and applications.
- troubleshooting techniques.
- blueprint reading.
- electrical schematics and ladder diagrams.
- equipment/parts recognition and applications.
- refrigerant types and applications.
