Info:Catahula Leopard's are the state Louiesanna Dog. Mostly used in hunting and herding. How they herd is unique. Most dogs get behind the beast and run back and forth barking to make the animal move, not the Catahula for they are known to go right up to the beast's nose and bite it. This ticks that animal off so the beast chases the dog whereever he/she wishes to lead the animal.
Calypso was the first to be trained as a guide dog. From Leader Dog of Rochester Mi. (opperated by the Lions Club) She had to go to the school for one month to learn on how to own a guide dog. (boy was that hard on her to be away from me fro so long) He was there for 4 months learning to be a guide dog. Calypso's trainer was called, Tom Hill. Then they came back from the school and then the doggie hair went everywhere. So much in fact that if I was sniffed by a dog to this very day he'd still be able to smell Calypso. So for around five years we had Calypso, he went everywhere we did (not unexpectedly). Why even once he got to ride on a "Jenny" that's Merry Go Round to the non-carnies.(See above) He was the center of attention where ever he went. For not many Californians have ever heard of, let alone seen a Catahoula. So many tried to feed him with and sometimes without permission. I beleive he was 20 pounds overweight.
Adoption: Was handled by a mutial friend of ours, who handles dog adoptions. I was told he's currently in a large yard with another dog for company. Even though I've never seen his new home I've been asured that its a good home.
Reason:Well it was her job to feed him, and since as a child I'd forget to feed the pet we had, when I'd forgot to feed Calypso one morning even though he was right there. I'd knew that I'd have to give him up. Send him to a place where he'd be fed. But also it was the fact that he was a constant reminder of her and also he got most attention from her and I'd didn't have the reasourses to keep him. So for his own good I gave him up, and hope she'd understand why I did so.
