Members of the 157th New York Infantry marching from the fort through the "sallyport.

Garrison at Ft. Clinch

These photographs were taken of members of the re-enactment group while participating in the "living history" events at Ft. Clinch, Florida. The members of the organization portray the 157th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry during their time while garrisoned at Ft. Clinch from 23 February, to 30 June, 1864.

The re-enactors strive for "authenticity" in presentations for the public.

Why do people re-enact?

Some people become involved because of a love of history or they are students of the Civil War period. Some because their forebears either fought or died in that horrible war. Others become involved at the urging of friends who found it first.

Regardless of the motivation, most re-enactors take it seriously and the more serious want to "share" their knowledge of the period with others.

The Commanding Officer of the 157th and the Paymaster lead the troops from the fort.

How do I become involved?

Attend "re-enactment" events and talk with the re-enactors. Surf the "Net" for groups near your place of residence or check the phonebook. Most participants will give you information about joining and some may have applications readily available.

For those in Northeast Florida it may be as simple as a visit to Ft. Clinch or a message by either "e-mail," or a phone call, to obtain information.
