EVALUATING PERFORMANCES
The following are my rubrics for grading student performances acted out in front of the class, whether they be skits, interviews, debates, panel discussions, or any other sort of presentation.
CRITERIA | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Creativity (variety and originality of dialogue, use of props and costumes, audience involvement) Effort (How much work and time does it appear students have put into the project?) Effectiveness (Did they get the message across? Were they clear and able to be understood? Was their presentation cogent and comprehensive?) Accuracy (How true were they to the matter at hand? Were there any errors in the portrayal of a person or idea? How well did they perform the specific task required of them?) |

EVALUATION | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
As each group gives its presentation, I assign a numerical grade for it based on the above criteria. Each student watching the performance also records a numerical grade based on the same criteria (which are thoroughly explained ahead of time) on a scrap of paper which no one else sees. Students must write their names on the papers they give me with their evaluations of classmates' performances. I average the student grades for each project together, and then average that grade with mine to arrive at the final grade for the performance. For example: I give Group A a 90. The students give group A an 80. Group A's grade for the performance would be an 85. I have used this method of evaluation for the past three years, and have found it fair and effective. Most of the time, there is not much of a disparity between students' grades for a performance and my own. I stipulate beforehand that all students in a group must take an ative role in the performance, as all students in a group recieve the same grade. |
