SKIT | ||||||||||
You may choose any category or topic, but I suggest that Jewish holidays and some portions of the life cycle lend themselves best to this form of assessment. | ||||||||||
1. Divide students into groups of four or five. You may wish to assign the groups yourself, or allow students to pick their own. 2. Assign or allow each group to pick a holiday or ritual which lends itself to acting out. 3. In each group, there should be "Jews" and "non-Jews". The premise is that the "Jews" in the group should not only enact the observance of a holiday or performance of a ritual, but should also explain the purpose and various aspects of it to their "non-Jewish" friends who have come to visit or celebrate with them. 4. Allow groups time to do research, write a script and prepare props. 5. Have students submit a rough draft of their scripts to you for approval. Specify a minimum of five minutes for the performance of the skit, and be sure students are aware that all members of the group must play an ative role. 6. Have the groups enact their skits in front of the class, and encourage audience questions and feedback. CLICK HERE FOR GRADING GUIDELINES. |
