This
is the front of the 1997 flyer. There have been many questions regarding
the woman with the text 'SAME BODY' underneath. Refer to the book Death
Scenes, page 119 for an answer. The picture is much creepier having looked
at the first two pictures.
This
is the back of the flyer. I enjoy the last line of the directions.
Once
at the house, visiting guests had to park around the corner and down the
street. Sometimes it was quite a walk.
Upon reaching the end of the drive, Mr. Voorhees blocked your way until...
The Reaper appeared to guide you into death.
Don't fear, follow me.
The House beckons. (Disregard the ladder)
Welcome,
my friend. Sit down and relax. Won't you stay...forever and ever and
ever? (This entire scene was lit by blacklight, everything glowed.)
You
run but things are not as they were moments ago. You find yourself in a
graveyard inhabited by a zombie in coveralls, er... a jumpsuit. (Brian
not only played a zombie, but ran the fogger and reset the slide from the next
scene as well).
Driven
by the zombie through a gateway, you are greeted by a hellish creature
from...Compton? What's up homie? (Sometimes finding cast members
can be very difficult.)
Why are all of these people standing in the scene?
Eventually you meet up with Michael and his dead
sister, Judith. (The bed was too small and we never used it again.)
Won't
you join us? Join Satan's army? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.... (Keith
really got into character)
Don't
go in the shed! DON'T LOOK IN THE BUCKET!!!
(This scene really freaked people out because the actor hid behind the shed
as the victims approached. Upon reaching the door, the guide instructed
them to enter the shed and look at the contents of a bucket. The bucket
contained a severed head but the real point was to lure the victims in the shed
so that the actor could sneak up behind them, yell, and bang on the doors with
an axe! Sometimes it was extremely difficult to get people to comply.
Now that you've met death, you call The Jennings House
of Horror your home and these are your closest friends.
In '97 we moved the house to another location.
The great thing about this house was the large trees and hedge in the
yard...they really gave it a spooky feel. Also, since it was a rental
house, we could take people inside. Another interesting aspect was the
slide in the backyard. It's basically a rope tied between two large trees
at an angle. We tied a ghost (sheet with a head) to it at the top and
released it as victims approached. It would slide slowly and quietly down
toward them...sometimes they would walk right into it before they noticed!
It was, all in all, a very good year. Once again, we had to turn people
away because it was getting late.
