Your guide..."Prepare to die, ha, ha, ha, ha...!"
In 1998, we promoted 'going back home', meaning
having the house at my parents, where it all started. This was also our
10th year...hence 'decade of terror'.
"Ten
years ago the bloodshed began on Seagrape Road. After 6 years,
the house of horror was
forced to move. Now the terror has come home."
"What
started in 1989 as a small fright for children and became a neighborhood
horrorshow in 1995 has now
become a regional terror."
"In
1989 the terror began. In 1995 you were tricked into becoming a treat
for the dead. Now prepare
yourself for the unimaginable."
We
had seven different flyers, here are two.
This year we did a lot of planning, we even started
keeping notes, ideas, etc. in a book
we call "the planning papper". Unfortunately, we lost this on
Halloween day...I think someone left it on the roof of the car during prop
transportation. We started another one in 1999. We keep everything
in this tome, paint and blood formulas, Party City flyers, layouts of the haunt,
internet research, etc.
These pictures were taken on All Hallow's Eve. We
were at the house
getting a head start on transporting and setting up.
We had 5 distinct areas that people walked
through. At the front people waited behind a small graveyard fence which
sat in front of a wall.
Unfortunately there is no picture that shows the wall
but you can see it in the background of the cast photos.
The center section can be seen in these photos, it has
a large pentagram with the words Ave Satani above it. Not visible in the
photos is a beating heart that was placed in the center of the pentagram.
The wall was made from 4' x 8' pieces of plywood, stood
upright and held in place by 2x4's angled at the back. To accommodate our
lack of wood (we only have about 8 pieces), we spread black visqueen between to
increase the length of the wall.
The only downside is that we didn't have sides to this
wall. People could see from down the street, so we put up halogen
lights facing away from the 'action'...no one could see beyond the lights.
To correct this, in '99 we built a wall which completely encircled the front
yard...unfortunately it did not withstand a thunderstorm at 5pm and we will not
risk wasting our time with it again.
Once inside the wall, guests walked through our
graveyard. Note that we have about 15 grave markers...here's a sampling.
You'll note that the Voorhees stone has some dates
painted over. One of the cast members thought it would be cool to list all
the years Jason died. The rest of us didn't think it was such a great
idea.
Hanging in a tree overlooking the graveyard is
Ned...dead Ned from under the bed.
We built him without a skeleton, so he's a
little limp and stretched. In
low light, he gets the job done.
Beyond the graveyard was a casket and a gate.
"We're waiting to feast on your flesh."
The gate would open mysteriously to
reveal...
The gatekeepers and their garden of
heads.
Guests would suddenly hear moaning and screaming coming
from a shed. There they would find leatherface and his helpless
victim. None of our guests attempted to help her.
Leatherface would 'kindly' ask the guests to move into
the next area...a long black corridor with a strobe light facing them.
Halfway down this corridor a demon would appear, killing a young boy.
The
demon looks like a young boy also, one wearing a mask. Unfortunately his
cloak was being used by yours truly due to a mix-up with the costumes.
Walking
through thirty feet of a narrow corridor looking into a strobe light can be very
disorienting.
Spend too much time here and you could end up looking like this guest...face
locked in a painful scream...on display for others enjoyment.
Or
this guest...dismembered and nailed to a cross.
Meet the butcher, our own resident cook. He carves up the best meat
in town. Be sure to come early and enjoy the carving ritual.
Some say
it's like being at a Japanese restaurant with the cook slicing and dicing
away right at your table. Just be sure not to get to close or part
of you could end up on the menu.
The guide grabs a snack and invites you to take a closer look. The
guides really enjoy this room...it's tasty.
On your way out don't move too slow, like this kid.
Below are some extra pics...
