Jazakallah. Akil Karim Acting Moderator for ABDG-A ---------- Forwarded message ---------- QUESTION: Is the writing of fiction allowed and if so are there any limits that are employed to restrict writing about certain elements....? I am not referring to blasphemy or the likes as Salman Rushdie was accused of... Rather I am inquiring about basic fiction writing. As an English major I would like to know what I can and cannot do in writing about things other than religion... ANSWER: Writing of fictions or novels is permitted provided they do not go beyond the bounds of shari'a. So, for example, writing a novel which could clearly lead to lustful thoughts or acts is haram, so is writing any form of material which is insulting to Islam or God, the Prophets, and Imams.
