QUESTION:

Is Imam Ali Keremellahuwechehu higher than Prophet Muhammed Sallallahu
te'ala aleyhi we 'ala elihi wesellem. If not how about the other prophets.

Sir I ask you this question for I am confused. I belong to the Alawite Nusayr
sect, we are very close in thought with the Shi'a Brothers only we say
Imam Ali (A.S) is greater than our Prophet Muhammed (PBUH&HF). I will
appreciate any response to the above question.


ANSWER:

According to our beliefs, Imam Ali (AS) is superior to all prophets except
our last prophet, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (SAW). Our Holy Prophet is the
closest creature to Allah.

The closest person to our Holy Prophet (SAW) was none other than Imam Ali
(AS). Out of all the Prophet's companions, none can come as close to the
Prophet as Imam Ali (AS). However, there is no comparison between the
statuses of the two. The Holy Prophet is definitely more afzal.
