Salaams & Duas Ummulbanin Merali - Moderator - 'Aalim Network ******************************************************************************** QUESTION: On the basis of medical ground (instructed by doctor) one person (male) has to do swimming exercise. It was ideal to take part in the swimming sessions provided only for men. But because of different environment no such facility is available. Whereas in some periods of the time table of the swimming pool (for example very in the early morning) the condition of the pool is so that the number of attendees is low. And in these sessions either none or very few female may attend the for swimming . So the pool will not so crowded and the person can keep enough distance from the possible female attendees. If the person tries his best to follow the Islamic rule of not looking to Na Mahram, is he allowed to attend such a session or it is Haram? ANSWER: It is necessary that the brother in question take all precautions so that he does not expose himself to that which is haram. If (as you have stated in your question) it is essential that he goes swimming due to medical reasons and he is confident that women do not frequent the pool in the early morning period, then if, by chance, women do turn up, he must leave the pool immediately due to the possibility of haram acts occuring.
